‘Abbey Road’ Beatles in reverse photo sells higher than expected at auction
A photo of the Beatles walking a different way across Abbey Road sold at auction Tuesday for £16000 ($25,232).
The sale was conducted by Bloomsbury Auctions in the UK.
Bloomsbury’s Sarah Wheeler, who handles photo auctions, said the photo was one of six Abbey Road crossing photos taken by photographer Iain Macmillan during the album shoot on Aug. 8, 1969.

“A collector’s who’s in the music industry bought it from a gallery about 10 years ago.”
Wheeler said the idea for the cover shoot was conceived by Paul McCartney. (You can see McCartney’s sketch and Macmillan’s notes for the shoot in our earlier story on the auction.)
The auction house had estimated the photo’s worth at £7,000 - £9,000 ($11,213 to $14,417 USD). Wheeler said the prints had sold in the past for as much £17,000 ($27,232).
