By Steve Marinucci
Beatles Examiner
Although the only currently scheduled concerts on Paul McCartney’s Up and Coming Tour are for Mexico City (May 27) and the five dates in the UK and Ireland in June, we’ve heard about at least one more concert being discussed.
Preliminary talks have taken place to schedule a concert in the San Francisco (CA.) Bay Area. No date or venue has been firmed up and that all has to be worked out before it can be announced. However, we hear it’s likely to be a stadium show.
Stay tuned.

Forgiven: The Beatles (from left, George Harrison, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney) during their first U.S. tour in 1964. The Vatican has called them a ‘precious jewel’

The Vatican has forgiven The Beatles on the 40th anniversary of their break-up - as sex scandals continue to rock the Catholic Church.Absolving the British group of their excesses involving ‘drugs and blasphemy’, the Vatican’s newspaper L’Osservatore Romano hailed them as a ‘precious jewel’.In a front-page article, it said: ‘It’s true they took drugs, lived life to excess because of their success, even said they were bigger than Jesus and put out mysterious messages, that were possibly even Satanic. читать далее…

In BBC interview, Ringo Starr says eBay sellers were to blame for mail autograph ban

Ringo Starr, currently in the UK to promote his new CD, “Y Not,” discussed what was behind his 2008 ban on autographs by mail in an interview with BBC disc jockey Sir Terry Wogan. He says it was his frustration with finding his autographs being put up the next day on eBay.

“I stopped giving autographs. I’d done millions,” he tells Wogan in the interview. “And it was getting bad really because you were signing and then they were on eBay the next day. So people were making money off of me. And so, anyway, I just decided I think I’ve done my share. That’s it.”

April 10, 1970: the Beatles breakup is official — the full McCartney interview that broke the news

tumblr_kyu8dunpwk1qzagivo1_1280.jpg

Ringo Starr talks about the breakup of the Beatles and how he moved on to his solo career.

It’s probably one of those days we all remember but wish we could forget when we heard the breakup of the Beatles was official.

It became official on April 10, 1970, 40 years ago today. The radio announcer was almost gleefully in announcing his story. “… And the Beatles are breaking up!” There had been walkouts before and they’d all become dissatisfied, but this was really the end. Paul McCartney took heat over this, and, in some quarters, was blamed for breaking the group up. But in reality, it was inevitable. They’d all wanted out and were glad it was over.

The “announcement,” such as it is, came in a question and answer interview distributed with promotional copies of Paul McCartney’s solo “McCartney” album. Some of the answers seemed a little bitter, but also displayed a new found independence. Here’s the interview:

the Beatles

benficabeatles.jpg
April 10, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of the breakup of The Beatles. As a tribute, TIME takes a look at the other most memorable band splits of all time.

Let’s get one thing straight: It wasn’t Yoko.

The most famous — and arguably the best — band in rock ‘n’ roll history suffered from creative rivalries, bad business decisions, and egos that were easily bruised. After the Beatles stopped touring in 1966, the tight-knit, insular group — they even dressed alike, for crying out loud — became increasingly divisive as each Beatle explored his own interests. Lennon and Yoko dabbled with bed-ins and avant-garde art, McCartney pushed his pop melodies, Harrison tried to explore more of his songwriting talent, and Ringo — well, he was stuck being Ringo.Although each Beatle privately “quit” the band at different times, Paul McCartney was the first one to go public about it. McCartney announced, “the divorce,” as Lennon called it, via press release on April 10, 1970, although at the time he said that the split was only temporary. But years of lawsuits, snide remarks in interviews, and even insults disguised as songs made hopes of a reunion less and less likely. Lennon’s murder in 1980 made it impossible. But perhaps the Beatles are best remembered by this statement, released by the other three band members, confirming McCartney’s announcement:”The world is still spinning and so are we and so are you. When the spinning stops, that will be the time to worry. Not now. Until then, the Beatles are alive and well and the beat goes on.”

How The Beatles’ meditation technique could cure depression

001atg7a.jpeg

Transcendental methods practised by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi cut symptoms in older people by nearly half

Transcendental meditation, the technique of achieving a state of “restful alertness” popularised by The Beatles 40 years ago, may be an effective treatment for depression in older people, scientists have found.

Two studies of more than 100 patients at risk of heart disease showed that those who practised the technique experienced a reduction in depressive symptoms of up to 48 per cent. Depression increases the risk of a heart attack even at moderate levels. читать далее…

Beatle news briefs: What’s up with the pre-show music, Paul?

photo0.jpg

THE SHOW BEFORE THE SHOW: Jon, who was at the Paul McCartney show in Arizona Sunday, sent us some information on what he saw and heard before the show: “There were video screens to the right and left, huge screens on both sides. There was a mix that was played before the show, similar to what was played before the Vegas show with interesting mixes of McCartney songs. There was also a very nostalgic video montage focused on early Beatles images and memorabilia, posters and ads for Liverpool shows at the Cavern and various ballrooms that mentioned the Liverpool grous, some of which were the Beatles. Remixes of “Silly Love Songs,” “Say Say Say”  (the latter got some applause), and a mix that focused on R&B covers of Beatle songs, Al Green’s “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and the Supremes’ “You Can’t Do That.” One of the things about the montage: There’s been talk about Pete Best and him being included or not in Beatle happenings, but there was at least one photo of the Beatles (in leather jackets) that included Best.  Of course, there were a lot of pictures of Paul and Linda. There was some later period pictures of the Beatles, but it focused on early black & white ones.”
