The Beatles made their legendary appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on this date in 1964.The band had arrived in the United States for the first time two days earlier and were greeted by thousands of screaming fans at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Their performance on Ed Sullivan was watched by 74 million people, which was then a whopping 40 per cent of the United States’ population.John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr performed “All My Loving,” “Till There Was You” and “She Loves You” on the first segment of the show before following it up with “I Saw Her Standing There” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” during the second part.
